Norton Men’s 3s vs Stokesley Men’s 3s
YNE North East Men's Division 3 Tees
Stokesley Men’s 3s delivered an impressive performance on Saturday, securing a dominant 6-1 victory over Norton 3s in a game filled with attacking flair and solid defensive work.
Just two minutes in, Stokesley signaled their intent with an early short corner. Rob initiated the play by moving the ball right and unleashing a shot on target. Although the Norton keeper made an initial save, Xav Lane reacted fastest, pouncing on the rebound to tap in Stokesley’s opener. It was a clinical start for the visitors, who quickly took control of the game.
In the first 10 minutes, Stokesley continued to dominate possession, pressing high and thwarting any attempts from Norton to launch an attack. Their persistence paid off when a well-timed ball found Rob in a dangerous position. With a powerful reverse stick shot, he slotted it past the Norton keeper, doubling the lead and making it 2-0.
The third goal came in the 18th minute from another short corner. Xav injected the ball to Rob, who skilfully played it across to Slade. With a well-placed low shot, Slade found the back of the net after a deflection that sent the ball looping over the Norton keeper. Stokesley now held a commanding 3-0 lead going into half-time, their fluid attacking play and defensive solidity setting them apart.
Stokesley picked up right where they left off after the break, with another well-executed move in the 13th minute. A series of crisp passes culminated in a flick from a tight angle by Xav, whose sharp finish extended Stokesley’s lead to 4-0.
Just four minutes later, Stokesley struck again. Displaying more quality in their attacking play, Rob added his second goal of the game, unleashing a low reverse stick shot that left the Norton keeper with no chance. At 5-0, Stokesley looked unstoppable.
Norton fought back and created a chance in the 19th minute from a short corner. Although the ball ended up in the back of the net, the goal was disallowed as the ball had not travelled outside the D, much to Stokesley’s relief. Undeterred, Norton managed to break through just a minute later with a long ball that caught Stokesley’s defence off guard, allowing them to score a well-deserved goal and reduce the deficit to 5-1.
In the closing stages, Stokesley continued to press forward. In the 32nd minute, Xav won the ball and was fouled in the process, but the advantage was played. A series of intricate passes saw the ball delivered to Rapha at the back post, who finished with composure to seal Stokesley’s sixth and final goal.
Final Score: Norton 1 - 6 Stokesley
Stokesley Men’s 3s will be pleased with this emphatic victory, demonstrating both their attacking prowess and defensive discipline. The team can take pride in a strong all-around performance, which they’ll look to build upon in upcoming fixtures.
